China News post

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/14/world/asia/14china.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

This article talks about China's third largest fresh water lake, Lake Tai. The lake was an important natural source of agriculture for rice patties and a excellant source of fish. The lake became infected withc toxiz cyanobacteria, referred to as pond scum. The lake turned a flouresant green color and smelled for miles away. The article also explains of a man named Mr. Wu who was trying to help save the enviroment but is limited in China and eventually lost his job and arrested. My reactions was to this is that i think that the biggest problem in the world today is pollution and development. Almost everywhere you go you can see gaarbage along the road beacause people are to lazy to find a trash i guess. Large developments who are great for the economy also have a harmful effect with chemicals and poluting the enviroment. I think the world needs to find a solution to these problems because the enviroment is being destroyed. In china the polllution problem is at a all time hight because the communist party fears that enviromentalist are a threat. They worry about the those that speak out rather than the air and soil being polluted. As for the man arrested, i feel very bad for him. He was only trying to help the enviroment but he is restricted in his actions fearing the consequences he could face. The man trying to do good for China, was eveuntaully arrested and lost his job. Why should people be punished for trying to fix amajor problem faced by the world today. I think that is wrong. The world has changed in that it puts its economy and development over its enviroment, which i feel is wrong.
